Father Robert E. Barron, a TC Basselin scholar from the class of 1982, was named an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on July 21st. Bishop-Elect Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, host of the award-winning CATHOLICISM film series, and since 2012 has served as the Rector/President of the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary outside of Chicago. His website, WordOnFire.org, reaches millions of people each year. His regular YouTube videos have been viewed over 13 million times. Next to Pope Francis, he is the most-followed Catholic leader on social media.  He asserts that these media outreach ministries will continue after his new assignment begins, one which he accepts “with a humble and joyful heart.” He is scheduled to speak at the World Meeting of Families on September 22, on the topic: “Living as the Image of God: Created for Joy and Love.”

The entire Theological College community congratulates our distinguished alumnus Bishop-Elect Robert Barron as he undertakes his new responsibilities!
